In 2011, Catherine Whelan, the managing director of walls and partitions manufacturer Monowa Limited, decided to take advantage of the funded support available from the Manufacturing Advisory Service. A review of the company's operations by a MAS practitioner revealed two key areas in which immediate improvements could be made and, by acting on them, the company has now created a firm foundation for new growth.

In November 2009, Javid Ebrahim launched Eanam UK Limited – a British manufacturing company specialising in the production of school-wear. In January 2010, he held discussions with advisers from Enterprise4All, who recommended that he take advantage of the support available from the Northwest Development Agency's Coaching for High Growth Programme.

Javid then set about working with his appointed coaches, with whose help he began a highly successful marketing campaign and increased his workforce to 13 employees in just five months.

Through the Northwest Development Agency's Coaching for High Growth Programme, he was able to obtain professional marketing advice that enabled him to develop a successful strategy for expansion.

Background:
In December 2009, EDC Blackburn – the UK's largest manufacturer of CDs and DVDs – closed down. This meant the loss of around 260 local jobs and a blow to the fortunes of several regional suppliers. However, the company’s decision to consolidate its operations in Germany prompted one enterprising employee to start his own business, which soon began filling the void in the market.

Recognising that the departure of Britain’s largest CD manufacturer would leave hundreds of smaller businesses without a supplier, former EDC Client Services Manager, Grant Mitchell founded Quick Discs Limited ahead of the plant's closure.
