Probably the most important quality that Habib Patel brings to the E4All board is a keen understanding of the challenges faced by small businesses in making the transition from fledgling start-up to profitable, well established enterprise.
This understanding is based on personal experience of developing a robust and highly successful venture. In 1989, shortly after leaving university, Habib founded Koverplast, a Lancashire based business that manufactures bags for wholesalers, retailers and a range of other organisations. It began with a single machine and a single employee but it has expanded steadily to become a very successful, high growth business that now provides employment for 25 workers. The company runs 18 machines and services a broad section of the market, with clients ranging from corner shops to blue chip companies and major household names.
Throughout his work, Habib had always been conscious that small businesses – especially those just starting out – are often faced by a lack of support. They invariably want to do more and achieve substantial growth but to do so, they need help. This was the frustration at the heart of his decision to join the board of Enterprise4All at its inception. By taking an active role in the direction of an active enterprise development company, Habib has since been able to help a great many SMEs and to pass on the benefits of his considerable experience.
